The most awaited gadget which we have been waiting for would be the Apple AirPower. The AirPower is Apple’s first wireless charging mat which will charge all your Apple devices in a single mat such as the iPhone, Apple Watch and your AirPod. The AirPower was originally revealed by Apple during the iPhone X event back in September 2017.
However, today Apple SVP of hardware engineering, Dan Riccio has given a statement to TechCrunch regarding the cancellation of the AirPower. According to him, the AirPower is not reaching its high standard. That’s the reason for stopping the project. Below is the official statement from him.
Statement from the SVP of Hardware
Dan Riccio, SVP of Hardware Engineering, Apple
After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,
During the event in 2017, Apple said that the final product will be ship to the consumer in 2018. Then during the last year event, still Apple did not reveal any information about the AirPower. Apart from that, with the recent launch of the second generation AirPods, Apple added wireless charging for the casing. At the same time, photos were circulated behind the packaging of the AirPod, you can see the AirPower mat as a picture.
Other than that, the other reason for canceling the AirPower project could be the overheating issue which was reported by the engineering team. The surprising moment is, even The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is approving to start the production of the AirPower soon.
Apple also noted that, they are not going to stop the wireless charging development. Maybe you might have to wait for some time for Apple to realize the wireless charging device.
In conclusion, we are sure most of you all might be sad for Apple cancelling the AirPower. Apple, could be working on to release a better wireless charging mat.
